Profile: Thom Poole has held a number of roles in the committee since he joined in 1998, including Events and Sponsorship Co-ordinator and Treasurer. He has been a member of the CIM since 1993. A Chartered Marketer, Thom is a graduate of Bournemouth University where he studied International Marketing Management, and completed an MSc at the University of Glamorgan. Thom worked for a number of years in the Principality of Liechtenstein for Hilti, returning to the UK to work for Black and Decker before going his own way, setting up Jack Marketing Solutions, a web marketing consultancy, continuing his belief that marketing must regain control of the web marketing channel. Thom also worked for a time in charge of the O2 website. Jack Marketing Solutions has now been amalgamated into Thom's new venture - The Schalun Organisation, a web publisher.
Thom is a regular on the speaker circuit, on TV and has a monthly column as the Daily Telegraph Business Club's digital marketing expert. He is also a lecturer on marketing at Birkbeck college, University of London.
Thom has found his involvement with the branch very useful for networking opportunities and as a source of information. He was formerly a member of Wessex and Royal Counties branches, but feels that the has really found his feet in the friendly atmosphere of Surrey.
Thom is an elected member of the South East Regional management board, fighting for the member's corner in the larger CIM family. As a result, Thom fulfils the role of Branch Councillor on the management committee, and has recently accepted the role of Chairman for a second term.
